Where would dead people go?
Where would dead people go? Whenever there is talks about death, there is a farrago of afterlife stories which tags along with it. I believed all those stories, though I was scared of ghosts. Things took a turn when I shifted to a house nearby a government run crematorium. I started noticing an odd smell reaching my home at odd times. At first I couldn't place the smell. Later one day I passed through a pocket road, and to my astonishment the smell came from the crematorium. The smell of burning dead bodies.
My dad told me, there are two kinds of cremation in 'Shanthikavadam' (it was named by the malayalam author, O.N.V Kurup. 'Shanthi' means peace, and 'kavadam' means gateway. "Gateway to peace"). First kind is the usual burning of bodies with firewood, and the other one is the electric cremation. In both of the kinds, the body gets burned, and sent out smoke to the atmosphere. At the end, they are turned to smoke. The perfect product of evolution is transformed to nothing but thin air.
Then this smoke reach the clouds, and stay there, until it rains. So, when we look up the clouds and floats with our 'cloudy dreams', are we floating along with these people? Do they intervene in our dreams? And what happens when it rain? They fall on us, giving us a cold ecstasy. They then merge with the soil, dig deep into it, or maybe flows down to the sea only to repeat the whole cycle again. So, do they really leave us, when they are dead? I doubt it. They get more close to us when they are dead.
And what about the other people who are buried when they are dead. I think they grow into plants, they get a new life. There is not a single soil which doesn't brings up saplings. Look at the tree around us. Why do you think we say trees have life? Because, they do have life. They are the exact people whom we buried years ago. And isn't afforestation a factor for rain? See how interwoven our lives are? Trees and rain mutually compliment each other.
This is nature. We are nature itself. This exactly is resurrection, afterlife or whatever you may want to call it. There is no way of getting out of this cycle. It is this cycle which holds together the mass that Earth is.
Next time when you look up to a cloud, or decide to cut down a tree, won't you think a hundred times?
